Doris E. Hendershot

Doris E. Hendershot, 69, of Cowanesque, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at her home.

She was born May 16, 1934 in Troupsburg, N.Y., the daughter of Lawrence "Buss" and Nina McLean Cady.


She worked at Bryant's Holly Farms Store and retired from the Westfield Big M in 2000 with over 30 years in the grocery business. She was a member of the Knoxville VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Gail Hendershot, Potter Brook; daughters, Patricia Church, Elkland; Pamela Hendershot, Cowanesque; step son and daughter-in-law, James and Donna Toscano, Syracuse, N.Y.; grandchildren, Chad and Kevin Hendershot, Potter Brook; Nichole Church, Elkland; step grandchildren, James and Lisa Toscano, Syracuse; sister, Madeline Walters, Florida; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Diane Cady, Westfield; James and Cheryl Cady, Westfield; Gordon Cady, Hornell, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Carol Cady, Westfield; dear friend, Charlene Clark, Cowanesque; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1995, and brother, Robert, in 1993.

Friends called at the Kenyon Funeral Home, Westfield, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., where funeral services were held following calling hours at 8 p.m. Ed Heyler officiated.

Burial was made in the Champlin Cemetery, Westfield.

Memorial donations may be made to the Laurel Hospice, 24 Walnut Street, Wellsboro, Pa., 16901.


Grace I. Kirk

Grace I. Kirk, 88, of Kenneth City, Fla., formerly of Nelson, Pa., died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at St. Petersburg General Hospital, Florida.

She was born in Danville, Pa.

She was a homemaker, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary 104 in Pinellas Park, VFW Auxiliary 6827 in St. Petersburg and OES Chapter 134, Elkland, Pa.

Mrs. Kirk is survived by a daughter, Lois C. Paul, Pinellas Park, Fla.; a sister, Eleanor Hall, Sebastian, Fla.; a grandson, Bruce Paul, Memphis, Tenn.; a granddaughter, Debbie Belles, Horseheads, N.Y.; and a great-grandson.

Burial will be in Nelson, Pa., at a later date.

National Cremation Society, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Charles A. Connolly

Charles A. Connolly, 61, of Douglas, Wyo., formerly of Potter County, Pa., died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003. He was the son of Charles R. and Marian Lehman Connolly. Services were held in Wyoming.

Lucille R. McCaslin

Lucille R. McCaslin, 80, of Liverpool, N.Y., formerly of Gold, Pa., died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003.

Arrangements, entrusted to the Benjamin R. Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses, were incomplete at press time.

James M. Reed

James M. Reed, 78, of 330 Eldred Street, Williamsport, died at his home on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.

His wife of 45 years, the former Dorothy P. Cupp, died Nov. 18, 1994.

Born Apr. 30, 1925, in Great Bend, Jim was the son of John and Gertrude O'Brien Reed.

He was a graduate of Great Bend High School and attended the University of Scranton.

A Naval Veteran of World War II, Jim was employed by Sylvania at Needham, Mass., for 20 years before becoming head custodian at Williamsport High School. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.

Surviving are a son, Michael R. and his wife, Connie, Westfield; a daughter, Julia C. Reed and partner, Connie Ownes, Williamsport; three granddaughters, Christina M., Michele E. and Samantha J. Reed; two brothers, Paul v., Great Bend; John P., Framingham, Mass.; a sister, Kathryn Scott, South Londonderry, Vt.

A grandson, Michael R. Reed, Jr., died June 24, 1974.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Boniface Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, with the Rev. Michael Zipay officiating.

Burial was made in the Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport. Military honors were by the Korean War Veterans.

There were no visitation. The family suggests memorials be given to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third Street, Williamsport, Pa., 17701.

Arrangements were by Sanders Mortuary, Williamsport.

R. Frank Evans

R. Frank Evans, 56, of Galeton, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, in his home.

Born Dec. 17, 1946, in Wellsboro, he was the son of Robert T. and Erma Osgood Evans.

He served with the US Army during the Vietnam War.

On Oct. 5, 1985, in Galeton, he married the former Jerry Ann Larrison, who survives. He owned and operated Osgood's Chevrolet-Oldsmobile Garage in Galeton for many years. He was a partner in E & G Auto Plus and Battery Warehouse in Coudersport. He was a member of the Galeton Masonic Lodge and the Ruffed Grouse Society.

Surviving besides his wife are his mother, Erma Evans, Galeton; a son, Church (Debra) Evans, Galeton; a granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Evans; a sister, Gay Ann (Mike) Salvadge, Galeton; three step-sons, Gerry E. Rager, Robert W. Rager, Kenneth D. Rager; nephews, Michael and Wade Salvadge; several aunts and uncles.

Family and friends may gather at the family home on Saturday, Aug. 23, after 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Collins-Olney Funeral Home, Galeton.
