When the last winning name was called on Saturday night for the Chinese auction, Chamber of Commerce President Melanie Warren and all her helpers breathed a sigh of relief. They were tired from all the activities of the weekend, but mostly relieved that nothing had to be changed because of rain. The thunderstorms of early Saturday morning turned to sunshine by 9 a.m. and everything went on as planned. Sunday morning there was a crowd of people for the community church service and the sermon was given by Steve Birdsall on horseback, much like the old circuit riders of yesteryear.

A good share of the activities began at 4 p.m. on Thursday in Dr. Davis Park with organizations vending their wares to bring in money for their purses. The talent show began at 6 p.m. and this year there were 11 performers using up the two hours allotted for this event. Being a show and not a contest is probably a good thing because judges would be hard-pressed to pick a winner. Each year the talent seems to get better. Those that performed were Shelly Perry, Ashlei Bell, Brendon Bell, Patrick Cole, Cody Cole, Hannah Young, Johnna Little, April Earl, Cierra Ackley, Sharon Gee and Ashley Jean. The pavilion was packed with family, friends, and other spectators who showed their appreciation with thunderous applause many times. Bingo was played from 8 - 9 p.m. and then Big Daddy DJ played music for the kids to dance until 10:30 p.m.

Friday there were plenty of things to do and the activities stretched from the high school and elementary school, all the way to the village of Cowanesque. If you were looking for a yard sale and didn't find one you weren't trying very hard. Almost every street in town had at least one and most had three or four sales. At the school you could get your car washed by the CV girls basketball players while you shopped at Venture Crew 28's yard sale. In Cowanesque it appeared that a few families put all their goodies in one spot and it resembled an open-air shopping mall with traffic lining both sides of Route 49.

Main Street in Westfield had many shoppers and the Lions Club super rose salesman Bob Fay probably sold roses to each one of them. Those using either the ATM or the drive-up window at the bank were getting their windows washed by Phyllis Erb, a bank teller, who was outside with her squeegee for customer appreciation day.

" Really this is a good idea to open Intensive drug and alcohol clinic in Westfield. This clinic has good facility and it will provide the best service for the Westfield people. I am very happy to know this news.
