WILLIAMSON-- Ten teams competed at the Williamson Varsity Volleyball Tournament Saturday, Sept. 7. The teams were split into two pool play brackets with the top eight teams advancing to the knockout rounds.

In the A-pool, Canton swept the competition with eight wins. Galeton, Sayre and Williamson rounded out the top seeds form the A-pool and moved on to the next round of play.

Meanwhile, in the B-pool Noretheast Bradford and Athens were both nearly perfect with seven wins and one loss each. Cowanesque Valley and Northern Potter took third and fourth place to advance to the knockout round.

In the first round of the knockout play, Canton and Athens continued their dominance from pool play with decisive victories. Canton defeated Northern Potter 25-10. Athens earned a 25-20 victory against Sayre, the third place team in the A-pool.

While Canton and Athens cruised to first round victories, Northeast Bradford had their hands full with the Lady Warriors. Williamson fought hard, but eventually fell 25-22 to the Lady Panthers.

While Williamson clashed Northeast Bradford, Cowanesque Valley and Galeton were fighting a back and forth battle of their own in the elementary gym.

After finishing pool play with a 2-6 record, the Lady Indians rebounded in the first round of knockout play with a 25-15 victory against Galeton.

The Lady Indians carried that momentum into the semi-finals against Northeast Bradford. Cowanesque Valley played well in the first two sets and forcing a decisive third set.

The Lady Panthers pulled ahead and earned a 15-6 victory to advance to the finals where they met Athens.

The Lady Wildcats handed Canton their first loss of the day in the semi-finals and continued to play well in the finals against Northeast Bradford earning wins of 25-13 and 25-10 to win the tournament.
