The Northern Tioga School Board choose Julie Preston as president at the December reorganizational meeting. Kim Strauser was named secretary. In addition to president and vice president, the board also named Jolene Meisner as PSBA liaison, Diana Barnes as employee relations contact, Jean Kohut as sick bank representative and Preston as I.U. representative.
Following the appointments, students of the month were recognized from each school. From Williamson High School Blake Schneider was named student of the month for his work in the industrial arts. From Williamson Middle School, Aaron Cody was named student of the month for being a good citizen and representing the school well. Natalie Yonker was named the R.B. Walter Elementary School student of the month for her upbeat attitude, hard work and willingness to help others.
Daniel Freeman was named the Cowanesque Valley High School student of the month for his hard work, preparation and for being helpful to classmates and teachers. The Cowanesque Valley Middle School student of the month was Nathaniel Boyer, who is kind, considerate and always engaged in class. In the Westfield Area Elementary School Raegan Watson was named student of the month for maintaining high honor roll for the first quarter of the year, being responsible, generous and motivated.
From Clark Wood Elementary, Jaylin Butler was named the student of the month for her hard work, preparation and positive behavior.
Following the student of the month presentations, council approved of tenure of AmyJo Vandernick, school nurse, at R.B. Walter Elementary School and Elizabeth Johnson, special education teacher, at Clark Wood Elementary School.
After a brief discussion of change orders, the council agreed to table the discussion until more information concerning spending was clarified.
Discussion turned to the recent renovations to the district schools, and the punch list which outlines the final projects that need to be completed. There is not a definite date as to the completion date.
The council approved the 2020-21 budget resolution which certified the tax rate for the next year will be increased at a rate at or below the adjusted Act 1 Index for the district of 3.8%, which equated to a maximum increase of .7014 mills.
Williamson High School principal, Kris Kaufman, requested a change to an equipment request which the the board approved.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Jan. 13.
