Ty Stover

Galeton Tigers Soccer

In the Tigers big win at home against the Towanda soccer team, Ty Stover scored a goal to help the Tigers push their way to an 8-0 victory. Over the next two games, the Tigers had two tough losses but Stover continued to be consistent as he has all season.

Against Coudersport Stover scored a goal and tallied an assist in a close loss that was pushed to overtime. The Tigers also faced the Wellsboro soccer team and Stover helped the Tigers score their only goal of the contest.

Stover is second on his team in goals scored and tied for first in assists, and has been consistent all season which is why he is being named this week’s Free Press Athlete of the Week.

Megan Wattles

Cowanesque Valley Indians Tennis

The Cowanesque Valley Indians tennis team got off to a slow start this season, but came roaring back and Megan Wattles was a big part of their resurgence.

In the Indians big win against the team at the top of the NTL standings, the Wellsboro Hornets, Wattles was able to not only win her singles match but also help to win in their doubles match that put the Hornets away. Wattles was pushed to three sets in her singles match, but was able to soundly put away her opponent 6-1 in the third set. In her double match, her and Sara Boyer were able to hold on to secure their fourth victory of the evening and the win against the Hornets. Her strong play in the contest is why Wattles is named this week’s Free Press Athlete of the Week.
