An unidentified person ran into the Gaines Post Office, 1977 Route 6, Gaines Township on Sept. 27.

According to police, the driver of a 2016 Subaru Legacy pulled into a parking stall at the post office just after 3 p.m. and failed to stop prior to hitting the west wall. The driver then backed away, pulled up to the outgoing mail box, placed a letter inside and fled the scene. The operator then returned to the scene and waited for police to arrive. He was uninjured and wearing a seat belt but did not recall hitting the building. There was minor damage to the front driver side bumper and paint transfer from the building on the front bumper.
