The Cowanesque Valley Lady Indians were able to win their Friday night matchup against Williamson in convincing fashion as they topped the Lady Warriors by a score of 42-18.
The Indians were led by a balanced attack, and had six players score in the effort led by Makayla Vargeson who netted 14 points on the night. Abby Ackley also scored 10 points in the effort as well.
Vargeson and Ackley combined for 12 first quarter points and helped to build a lead the Lady Warriors wouldn’t be able to bounce back from.
The Indians jumped out to a big 14-5 lead in the first and never looked back throughout.
The Lady Warriors were led once again by Lateisha Peterson who scored 11 and has been stellar throughout the season despite the Lady Warriors struggling to get a win so far.
The Lady Indians posted one of their best defensive efforts of the season as they held Williamson to only 18 points on the night.
In their next game, the Lady Indians hosted the Montgomery Red Raiders and despite an impressive effort, were unable to come out with their second win of the weekend as they fell by a score of 53-47.
The Lady Indians were able to keep things close throughout, but fell behind 27-18 in the first half and were unable to claw back in the final two quarters.
They nearly made a run in the fourth quarter as they scored 18 points, but four missed free throws in the quarter were the ultimately undoing for the Lady Indians.
The Indians had four players score in double figures with Ackley and Paisley Nudd both scoring ten in the effort with Nudd hitting on two three-pointers in the contest.
Vargeson poured in a team-high 13 points and Kaitlyn Streeter added 12 with six of her points coming in the fourth quarter run where the Indians nearly completed the comeback.
The Indians now sit at 4-4 and find themselves right behind Canton and Northeast Bradford in the small school NTL division.
