The Elkland Area Senior Citizens Club met on Thursday, July 11, at the Elkland Fire Hall.
It was the first meeting that has started at noon instead of the previous time of 12:30 p.m. At the June Meeting it was voted to start the meetings at noon.
Club president Dick Vargeson welcomed everyone and opened the meeting. Long-time member Ray Doan gave the blessing followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
Forty-one members were in attendance which was the same number from the meeting one year ago. Bill and Louise Hall prepared hot dogs and burgers, and the club president made and furnished the Texas hot sauce for the dogs.
The July meeting is always the clubs “summer picnic.” The members always come up with a great variety of dishes like fruits, vegetable, salads, to complement the grilled goodies.
The club had one guest this month, Marilyn Simons, sister of member Monroe Graves. For entertainment, the club’s own “Maria” sang a variety of country and show tunes with the final song, a sing-along “God Bless America” An announcement was made regarding a Captain Bill’s Seneca Lake Cruise on Aug. 10 that some of the club members are going on.
Birthday’s for the month are Monroe Graves, Alyce Shay, Waldo Wood and Chris Hendrickson. One anniversary for July is Colis and Cindy Blend.
The club drawings were won by Bradley Ball (door prize), Mary Bacon (Big M gift card) and Dick Vargeson (50-50).
The club meets the first Thursday of each month from April through December the dues are $7.50 per person. The main course each month is furnished as is coffee, soda, water and all the fellowship you can handle. We start at noon. Come join this great group of people.
