WESTFIELD — Schiffty’s Bar and Grille is hosting its first ever Charity Golf Tournament this Saturday, Sept. 21 at the River Valley Country Club in Westfield.

“We do a lot for different charities, and we thought a golf tournament would be something we could do to help out the Ronald McDonald house in Danville,” said Penny VanNoy, who has been involved in organizing the tournament.

“Danville is a ways away, but I know some local people who have used it. They work with the hospital so the parents don’t have to afford a motel room. They don’t have to go out to find a restaurant to go eat because they keep the cupboards stocked. They have everything right there and they can spend as much time with their child as they want. Then it’s right across the parking lot basically. They don’t have to drive hours to spend time with their child who is sick,” VanNoy said.

After the tournament, players will return to Schiffty’s where there will be a meal and prizes. Representatives from Ronald McDonald house will also be at the tournament to meet and talk with players about the charity.

Registration begins Saturday morning at 8 with a shotgun start 9 a.m. The Ronald McDonald House of Danville, Inc is a private , non-profit organization that provides a “home-away-from-home” for parents and families of critically ill children. Since 1981, the Ronald McDonald house of Danville has served more than 397,000 individuals.
