Owen Fitzwater fields a grounder at shortstop and gets the out at first against Wellsboro Wednesday, May 1.

The Cowaensque Valley Indians squared off with the Wellsboro Hornets Wednesday, May 1. The Indians started the game with left-handed pitcher Kurtis Easton on the mound.

The Hornets sent eight batters to the plate in the first inning and scored three runs. Billy Lechler knocked in two runs in the top of the first with a home run. Kaeden Mann scored a couple batters later on a Taynton Repard double.

Easton was able to get out of the inning after a grounder and a force out at second. The Indians were now facing an uphill battle against the Hornets with Carson Davis on the mound.

Davis held the Indians to just five hits while striking out five batters in seven innings of work on the mound.

The Indians held Wellsboro to just one run over the final six innings of play. Seth Huyler took the mound the fourth and struck out five batters while allowing just one hit and one run.

At the plate, the Indians were unable to score a run until the seventh inning. Despite holding Wellsboro to just four runs, the Indians lost 4-1.
