Over the weekend Cowanesque Valley Lady Indians took one the NTL’s top two teams. Friday night the girls would begin the weekend with a home match against the number two seeded North Penn-Mansfield Lady Tigers.
Cowanesque Valley put up a fight in the first half, keeping pace with the high-powered Lady Tigers offense. In the first quarter, the Lady Indians scored 17 points.
Makayla Vargeson led Cowanesque Valley in the first quarter with nine points.
North Penn-Mansfield finished the first with a two-point lead behind strong play from JoAnne McNamara and Jaime Palmer and game high three three-pointers in the quarter.
The Lady Indians kept the game close in the second with a seven-point effort on offense. Karmen Short scored four of her 12 points on the night in the second.
North Penn-Mansfield put up 11 points and were led by Emma Palmer with a pair of three pointers. At the half North Penn-Mansfield led 30-24.
The Lady Tigers pulled away at the start of the second half. North Penn-Mansfield scored 16 points and held Cowanesque Valley to just five to take a 17-point lead heading into the fourth.
The Lady Indians attempted a comeback but fell short in the end 55-40.
Vargeson led the Lady Indians with 14 points.
Short finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Delaney Doan scored six points and had two steals in the home loss.
The next night Cowanesque Valley hit the road for a matchup with the NTL’s top seed Sayre.
The Lady Redskins would control the match and win by 21 points 49-28. This week the Lady Indians travel to Northeast Bradford Wednesday followed by a matchup with North Penn-Liberty Friday.
