Mansfield jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Edinboro came back to earn a 7-2 win in the elimination game of the PSAC Championship Tournament Wednesday evening.
Alli McGovern stroked a lead-off double to left center then Lacey O’Donnell reached on an error by the left fielder to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Joelle Snyder came through with a single up the middle to score a run before Deshae Jones plated another to give the Mounties a 2-0 advantage.
The lead was short-lived as Edinboro responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to lead 3-2. The Fighting Scots went on to score a single run in each of the next three innings and another in the sixth.
Mansfield was poised to have a big inning in the third with bases loaded and one out, but Edinboro was able to end the threat with no damage done. The Mounties put runners in scoring position in the fifth and seventh innings, but could not capitalize.
Carley Nasca went 5.0 innings in the circle with one earned run and three strikeouts.
McGovern, O’Donnell, and Jones each collected a pair of hits for the Mounties in the game.
Mansfield ends the 2019 campaign with a 17-15-1 overall record and 11-7-1 mark in conference play. The postseason berth was the first for the Mounties since 2014.
