The Lady Indians fell to the visiting Canton Warrriors Thursday night in a close five set match. The loss was Cowanesque Valley’s eighth of the year, bringing their overall record to 4-8.
This matchup with Canton was a much closer game than their previous battle, where Canton won in three sets.
The Lady Indians played much better this game, dropping only the fourth set by more than two points. Scores for the evening were 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-11, 15-13.
After winning the first set the Lady Indians fought a back and forth match in the second set, coming up just short.
The Lady Indians were able to bounce back in the third set securing their second win of the evening. But after that win Cowanesque Valley was unable to secure that third and final victory for the evening.
A lopsided fourth set went to Canton before a close fifth set that saw Canton win by two.
On offense Makayla Vargeson led the charge with seven kills. Rylie Walker added three and Kaylin Burton two. Abby Ackley and Karen Short each had a kill on the evening.
Karmen Short had four aces on the night, leading the Lady Indians.
On defense Karmen Short secured 20 digs. Right behind her was Kaylin Burton with 18. Ashleigh Southard and Makayla Vargeson each had 14. Rylie Walker contributed nine, while Abby Ackley with six and Kailey Wells with two, rounded out the defense for the Lady Indians.
This week the Lady Indians will face Towanda, Troy and Oswayo Valley. Of these three teams none have more than three wins.
This stretch of games offers the Lady Indians a perfect opportunity to improve their record. If Cowanesque Valley can win these three games they will close in on .500 for the season.
