Crashes

Michael B. Oskamp, 56, of Wellsboro, escaped injury as did Chrysta M. Knowlton, 30, of Wellsboro, in a two-vehicle crash on Route 287, Delmar Township June 28. Oskamp was traveling north in a 2006 General Motors Sierra when he hit the 2011 Nissan Rogue operated by Knowlton, which was stopped in traffic backlogged for another crash. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Rance P. Sechrist, 55, of Elmira, N.Y., escaped injury in a one-vehicle crash on Route 287, Delmar Township June 28. Sechrist was traveling south in a 2014 Toyota Sienna when a tree fell on the vehicle as it was in motion, causing disabling damage. Sechrist was wearing a seat belt.

Daniel W. Berstler, 80, of Wellsboro, and Jenna L. Brought, 20, of Wellsboro, both suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Charleston Road, Charleston Township June 21. Berstler was stopped at the intersection of Hills Creek Road in a 2015 Ford Escape, intending to turn right, and instead turned left and was hit by Brought’s 2009 Subary Impreza, which was traveling west. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. They were transported to Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Frank G. Carl, 44, of Ithaca, N.Y. and his passenger, Angela G. Rogers, 36, of Ithaca, N.Y., escaped injury in a one-vehicle crash on Route 15, Liberty Township June 29. Carl was traveling north in a 2013 Ford Mustang when a deer entered the roadway, and he was unable to avoid impacting it. Both driver and passenger were wearing seat belts.

Gerald S. Austin, 48, of Wellsboro was not injured in a one-vehicle accident on Antrim Road, Charleston Township, at 5:19 a.m. July 2. Austin was traveling south when a deer entered the road and was struck by Austin’s 2011 Nissan Rogue. His vehicle sustained moderate damage.

A 16-year-old male was injured in a one-vehicle accident on Gleason Road, Ward Township, at 11:11 p.m. June 28. The teen was traveling north when he lost control of his 2009 Chevrolet Aveo while negotiating a curve at a bridge. The vehicle was towed from the scene. The driver was transported to Troy Hospital for minor injuries. He was charged with driving at an unsafe speed.

A driver was uninjured when the vehicle struck a deer while driving north on State Route 287 in Middlebury Township. Police said the impact took place at 8:05 a.m. June 28. The vehicle was damaged, but driveable.

No one was injured, but a garage down was smashed when a tire broke away from a tractor-trailer unit. Police said the 2019 Peterbilt was traveling east on Route 6 in Richmond Township at 7:38 a.m. July 4 when the tire broke away, exited the road and traveled through a front yard where it struck the door of a detached garage. The door was inoperable.

Police said Benhamen L. Miller, 31, of Millersville sustained a minor injury when his 2016 Mazda 3 struck a deer on State Route 549 in Rutland Township. The accident took place at 12:28 p.m. July 8.

Burglary

A 60-year-old Blossburg woman was the victim of a burglary. Sometime between May 1 and June 14, an unknown person(s) broke into a storage shed in Covington Township and removed several household items with a total value of about $50.

Theft

At 7:30 p.m. July 3, state police responded to a report of a theft. Someone removed a Terex light tower valued at $13,000 from a well pad on Blake Road in Covington Township. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at 570-662-2151.
