Charles Cornelius Umble, 36, of Westfield, died as the result of injuries sustained in a crash on Route 287, Middlebury Center, Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 3:10 p.m. According to state police at Mansfield, Umble was traveling south in a 2007 Dodge Ram pick-up truck when he lost control on a slight left hand curve in the roadway near the hogbacks. He spun out of control and drove off the shoulder into a swampy area alongside the road. The truck then rolled over and came to rest on its roof. The heavy rain, wet road conditions and speed were contributing factors to the crash, police said.
Umble was pronounced dead at the scene. Middlebury Fire and Ambulance assisted at the scene.
