Grandma wishes Josh Rees well

On a cool fall night under the lights at the Port Allegany football field, I witnessed the first and second quarters; almost had a great feeling of joy.

Then the crowd went quiet — you could already hear a pin drop — when Josh Rees, 32, had a terrible tackle. The sports crew stood over him. I figured something was wrong. I guessed a broken foot; I wasn’t off by much. Rees broke three bones in the top of his foot. He has a cast on, so he will be out for the season.

The coach said, “Obviously a kick in the butt, trying to hold back his tears.” I was hoping he’d stay strong; playing a game like football is no easy sport. Josh loved football, baseball and wrestling. I hope he can wrestle this season. If not, so be it. The Gators will come back strong.

We all salute you, Josh Rees, and your courage, honor and most of all, sacrifice, and willingness to serve with your Gator friends. Good luck with whatever you choose to do after school.

Gator Power!
