Eli Ayers, senior, has again been picked as this week’s Coudersport Baseball Player of the Week, sponsored by E&G Auto, Plus. Ayers is the son of Abby and Josh Ayers.
Ayers had another monster week at the plate, going 5-10 with a double, home run and six RBIs.
Last Wednesday Ayers was 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI against Otto-Eldred. Coudersport lost to Otto-Eldred earlier this season, but won 10-5 the second time around. At center field, Ayers caught a fly ball in the bottom of the first inning and threw out the base runner who had tagged up at third base and was trying to score. Ayers helped keep the game scoreless at that point. Against Oswayo Valley, Ayers had his first home run of the season; he was 3-3 with three RBIs.
“Eli has had another fabulous week for us. It was exciting to see Eli hit his first high school home-run,” head coach Doug McClintic said. “What was just as impressive and possibly more important was the laser he threw from the outfield to throw out the Otto-Eldred runner at home plate early in the game to set the tone for our defense and help guide our team to the victory.”
