The 9th annual Domestic Violence Awareness Weekend is set for next weekend, July 10-11 at the Roulette Fire Hall.
The weekend was brought on by the death of Cheri Shalkowski Baker, who was a victim of psychological and verbal abuse before being killed by her estranged husband on July 13, 2008. The Roulette Township Supervisors have proclaimed that every July 13 is Domestic Violence Awareness Day.
The event begins at 7 p.m. Friday, July 10 with a 5K walk (registration is $25), quarter bingo, ice cream social and chance auction.
It continues on Saturday, July 11 with a cornhole tournament, quarter bingo, chance auction, homemade barbecue sauce contest, chocolate dessert contest and a chicken barbecue.
