A 2015 Toyota was traveling west on State Route 49 in Eulalia Township at 10:47 p.m. on April 27 when troopers observed multiple traffic violations. According to a police report, a traffic stop was initiated and it was discovered the driver, a 50-year-old male of Downingtown, had been consuming alcohol beverages. A sobriety test was completed and the driver showed signs of impairment. The driver was arrested for DUI and transported to UPMC Cole for chemical testing. Charges are pending.

Vehicle fire

At 12:30 a.m. on May 3, Dennis J. Furman, 57, of Austin, was traveling in a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado on Kaple Hill Road when it began emitting smoke from under its hood and caught fire, according to a police report. Furman pulled the vehicle off the roadway and exited safely. Furman used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out.


A crash occurred at 7:27 a.m. on May 2 on State Route 49 in Hebron. According to a police report, Katie S. Thomas, 32, of Ulysses, was traveling in a 2007 Ford Fusion when the vehicle began to turn sideways when she attempted to make a left hand curve on wet road conditions. When Thomas tried to correct it, the vehicle spun out of control, crossed the eastbound lane of travel and struck a guide rail with its front bumper. The vehicle rotate counter clockwise and the rear bumper struck the guide rail. Thomas was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. She was charged with failing to drive at a safe speed.

Theft by deception

Police are investigating a reported theft by deception incident at 61 State Street in Portage Township on May 3, according to a police report. The complainant, a 67-year-old male, reported a bank card was fraudulently used.
