Della Moore of Olean was the guest speaker for Port Allegany Church Women United World Community Day. The tureen luncheon meeting was hosted by ladies of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
Peg Kallenborn of the First Presbyterian Church introduced Moore as a person known in the Olean area and beyond for her kindness and positive outreach to others. Her story stretches from her native Philadelphia to college to Olean, living in Africa and vowing to educate others about the rich African-American heritage in this area. Moore is most proud of being a creator of the African-American Center for Cultural Development in Olean, which hosts multi-cultural educational events and celebrations. The message of the day was of the importance of interaction among people of all religions, races and cultures.
Also at this meeting, items for Warren State Hospital Christmas stockings were collected, and it appears that CWU has collected the largest amount of gifts for the residents in recent history of the project here in Port Allegany.
