A 24-year-old male of Port Allegany was determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol at 7:44 p.m. on Dec. 30 on North Main Street, near the intersection of East Vine Street in Port Allegany, according to a police report. Troopers observed a 2012 Toyota Camry commit several summary traffic violations and conducted a traffic stop. The defendant was placed in custody and transported to Bradford Regional Medical Center for a legal blood draw. Charges are pending blood results.

A one-vehicle crash occurred at 4:45 p.m. on Dec. 29 on Music Mountain Road in Layfayette, according to police. Upon further investigation, the operator, a 24-year-old man from Fairfax, Va., was found to be driving under the influence. Charges will be filed through MDJ David R. Engman.

A crash occurred at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 5 on Route 59, west of Route 321, according to police. A 29-year-old Clarendon woman was traveling east on Route 59 when her 2014 Kia Optima drifted off the road and struck a tree head on. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to the Bradford Hospital. The driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for DUI and traffic violations. This investigation is ongoing.

PFA violation

Police responded to Oil Valley Road in Otto at 5 p.m. on Jan. 5 for a report for a protection from abuse violation, according to police. The victim, a 27-year-old Duke Center woman, said the arrestee, a 30-year-old Bradford man, was messaging her via Facebook Messenger that day, which allegedly violated the PFA order. The arrestee was located, arraigned and committed to the McKean County Jail in lieu of $50,000 straight bail.


A crash occurred at 5:28 p.m. on Jan. 2 on North Main Street in Port Allegany. According to police, a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old Port Allegany woman rear ended another vehicle driven by an Emporium woman, when she failed to stop at a traffic control device at the intersection of Main and Mill streets. The 21-year-old driver was charged with following too closely.

A crash occurred at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 3 on Route 6, east of Freer Hollow Road, according to police. A 39-year-old Smethport woman was traveling west on Route 6 when the vehicle traveled off of the road and struck an embankment. The vehicle traveled along the embankment for about 45 yards before attempting to return onto the westbound lane. The vehicle then became airborne and tipped onto the driver’s side. The vehicle sustained disabling damage to the front end, the driver side front fender and a cracked windshield. The driver was transported by Port Allegany EMS for possible injury. The driver was charged with failing to drive on roadways laned for traffic.
