The Port Allegany boys basketball team tipped off the 2020 portion of its schedule with a one-point heartbreaker at Smethport, as the Hubbers rallied from a 24-16 halftime deficit for the 48-47 win. Howie Stuckey led all scorers with 16 points and Jordan Card added 14 for the Gators, while Richie McDowell paced the Hubs with 14.

“We were up by 10 at one point, then they closed within one. We went back up five or six, then they would come back. We turned the ball over a couple times late in the game, (and) that let Smethport hang around,” coach Kyle Babcock wrote via text message.

Port (2-6, 1-3 NTL) has three games slated this week, hosting Coudersport on Jan. 6, traveling to Oswayo Valley on Jan. 8, then returning home to face Galeton on Jan. 10.
