The school year may be over, but various teams are still in action on the local diamonds, including the revival of an American Legion baseball club in Port Allegany.
Sponsored by the Frank Burt Post #258 of the Port Allegany Veterans Memorial, Inc., Port is off to a strong start in the six-team Elk/McKean/Warren County Youth Legion league with a 4-1 record three weeks into the season. Last week, they nipped Bradford at home on Tuesday, 3-2, then split a doubleheader at Smethport on Thursday.
Against Smethport Post #138, Ty Guilds drove in two runs and Logan Pesock had two hits in the opener, a 5-4 walkoff win for the home team. In the second game, an 8-0 shutout victory for Port, Trey Ayers struck out eight batters in 5.1 innings of work and Ian Dynda, Drew Benson and Carter Moses each had an RBI.
The roster includes River Cramer, Isaiah Caden, Blaine Moses, Ian Dynda, Drew Benson, Carter Moses, Ethan Sprankle, Ty Guilds, Payton Spencer, Trey Ayers, Drew Evens, Logan Pesock, Kaden Price, Corbin Hamilton, AJ Wiley, and Jack Lathrop.
