The driver of a 2006 Dodge Stratus escaped injury in a crash with a deer on Route 6, Hamlin Township June 3. Police did not identify the driver, who said he was unable to stop when the deer entered the roadway into his path. The vehicle sustained slight front end damage and was driven from the scene. The driver was wearing his seat belt.
Mark A. Carlson, 46, of Smethport, was injured in a one vehicle crash on Route 46, Norwich Township June 8. Carlson was traveling north in a 2012 Kenworth tractor trailer when he failed to maintain his position in the northbound lane, and drove off the road, hitting a guide rail. The truck then traveled down an embankment and hit a tree where it came to final rest. Carlson was transported via medical helicopter to UPMC Altoona. The truck had to be towed from the scene by Big Dogs Towing. DEP was contacted to about a spill of an oil-based substance from an open container being hauled on the trailer.
Police are investigating a hit and run crash on Seneca Drive, Liberty Township June 7. The unknown driver hit a power line after driving into a private driveway and then fleeing the scene. The impact caused damage to a power pole, electrical lines, business sign and satellite dish.
Georgia Schoonover, 36, of Duquesne, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and harassment following an incident on Route 6, Keating Township June 1. Police said Schoonover hit the 43-year-old male victim from Port Allegany multiple times with a closed fist and kicked him resulting in injuries to his face, neck, chest and legs. Following arraignment in district court, she was remanded to McKean County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
A 55-year-old Gifford man was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Route 59, Keating Township June 7. Police said the man was in a 2005 Lincoln-Continental Navigator pulled off the shoulder of the road. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and charges are pending blood alcohol test results.
State police investigated an incident in Port Allegany involving a 20-year-old female and a 52-year-old male, both of Port Allegany, June 9. Police said the incident, at the East Cutler Road residence in Liberty Township, McKean County, resulted in minor injuries to the female victim, when the male hit her in the face with a closed fist. Charges will be filed in District Court for harassment.
