MANSFIELD — Larry Mansfield briefed members of the Mansfield Chamber of Commerce on the upcoming Sister Cities trip during the Jan. 14 meeting.
A sister city is exactly what it sounds like; it’s a city with the same name in a different part of the country, or even world. The program was created to bring those communities together. Larry Mansfield, organizer of the sister city committee, said there are 26 Mansfields around the world. Every four years, the sister city committees arrange a trip to another Mansfield community.
In October, the Mansfield communities will gather in Mansfield, Texas. Larry Mansfield said several people from here are interested in going and a bus or van will be organized. A festival will be happening during the timeframe of the trip and other outings will be planned.
The YMCA is working on getting its summer camps up and running. The summer camps continue to grow over the years and the YMCA hopes to continue expanding. Last year, it averaged about 30 kids a week, a YMCA representative said during the chamber meeting. The YMCA is looking for places to bring the camp kids.
The Mansfield Lions Club is celebrating its 80th year and will be educating the community about what the club does. They are always looking for new members.
The New Covenant Academy will put on “The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet” during the first weekend in March. This is one of the school’s first drama productions.
350 tickets are on sale for $20. The drawing will be March 21 at the Mansfield Fire Hall. TVs will be set up with March Madness games playing. Food is provided, but it’s BYOB. Proceeds help fund the Fourth of July.
The next Mansfield Chamber of Commerce meeting will be at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11 in the borough conference room. If the schools are delayed or cancelled, so is the meeting.
