Janet Lawton, 62, of North Lawton Road, Delmar Township, died Sunday, Dec. 23 after her clothing was caught in the PTO of a tractor attached to a manure spreader as she prepared to work on her 300-acre beef cattle and horse farm.
According to deputy county coroner Jim Daugherty, “it appears she started the tractor, which she had hooked to a manure spreader, and a hydraulic line wasn’t hooked, and she either reached under or over the PTP to get it and she got caught in the PTO shaft.”
Daugherty said she was alone when it happened sometime after 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23.
Bruce Kriner, a neighbor who had been helping her on the farm, found her at about 1:30 p.m. Daugherty said he arrived at 2 p.m. and pronounced her dead of mass blunt force trauma.
Funeral services are planned for this weekend.
