Cowanesque Valley Indians
Junior volleyball player Makayla Vargeson started her season by leading her team to a big win in their season opener against Northern Potter. The Indians took all three sets, and Makayla was a huge part of the teams’ success. Makayla had 11 kills, four aces, and twelve digs in the matchup which was a big part of the Indians abillity to take home the win.
She was consistent throughout the game leading her team in kills and digs, and also serving the ball effectively as well. According to coach Bonnie Walker. Makayla will be a big part of this Indians team who won ten games last year and lost in the district championship game.
The next game for the Indians is Sept. 5 at home against Williamson in their first NTL game.
North-Penn Mansfield Panthers
Junior football player Colton Litzelman had big shoes to fill for this Panthers team, after losing a great quarterback from last season, but has proven so far to be able to live up to those expectations. Against Athens Colton had a great game, throwing for almost 200 yards and adding three touchdowns through the air on Friday. He completed 19 passes to seven different receivers giving a healthy spread of the ball to all of the players.
Colton led the charge, and helped the Panthers in scoring 37 points, and lead a balanced offensive attack that amassed nearly 400 yards. He helped lead the Panthers to a huge first win against Athens on the road and will look to continue to throw the ball effectively when the team travels to Bloomsburg for a non-conference match-up this Friday.
