In last week’s edition of the Wellsboro Gazette/Free Press-Courier we looked at players to watch for the upcoming 2020 season for the Cowanesque Valley Indians and Williamson Warrior teams, but omitted girls tennis.

This week we will look at who on the Cowanesque Valley Lady Indians tennis team are slated to make an impact on the upcoming fall season.

Girls Tennis

Megan Wattles

Megan Wattles was a big part of the improbable share of the NTL Title in 2019, and despite going 6-6 in the season had a phenomenal record against NTL teams at 5-1 including a huge win over Wellsboro to end the season.

Wattles had good outings in both of those high-pressure contests and ended her 2019 season with winning records in not only singles but also doubles play.

After a slow start for the Indians in 2019, look for now senior Wattles to lead the way and help the Indians try to put together back-to-back strong seasons on the tennis court.

Shae Schoonover

Shae Schoonover was another junior who had a big impact on the CV tennis squad in 2019, and will be looked to as one of the two senior leaders heading into the 2020 season.

Schoonover posted a 5-2 record in singles play for the Indians and also put together a 1-1 record in doubles play.

With four graduating seniors on the Lady Indians tennis team, look for the senior tandem to be the heavy hitters this fall.
