Due to the continued impact of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Mansfield Destroyers announced a schedule change that pushes the start of the 2020 season from the original date of June 1 until June 15 in order to ensure the safety of players and fans.

With the change in schedule, there will be multiple changes to the NYCBL in order to supplement the movement of the start of the season by two weeks.

Other announced changes included:

  • 32 game schedule — eight games against each division opponent.
  • Two divisions, east and west, division only play.
  • Hornell and Genesee will take a 2020 leave, returning in 2021.
  • Rochester will move to the West Division.

Playoffs will be a double elimination tournament with the top two seeds from each division playing at a neutral site on Friday, July 31 and Sunday, Aug. 2.

“Our players and fans safety is our number one priority during these difficult times. Aking that into consideration, we felt that flexing our schedule and opening our season on June 15 instead of June 1 will give us ample time to prepare ourselves to take the extra measures of safety for our fans, players and employees. We will have a revised schedule released within the next few days. We look forward to seeing you (fans) at the Shaute Field in June,” owner Don Lewis said.
