Halloween may be two months away, but preparations are brewing for a group of “witches” to dance along the Wellsboro parade route.
Shirley Welch of Covington, along with The Enchanted Hollow in Wellsboro, is organizing the informal dance group based on the YouTube sensation of the witch’s dance in Germany to the music of Peter Fox. To watch the clip, visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjUV-byB8ls.
“My friends and I usually dress and go for a nice dinner and watch the Halloween parade,” said Welch. “We decided this year that we are going to participate and the broom dance is the perfect way to have fun.”
Practice begins Thursday, Sept. 12, from 6-8 p.m. at the Wellsboro Moose on Old Tioga Street. Additional practices are scheduled for Sept. 19 and 26 and Oct. 3, 10 and 11.
The final practice is a dress rehearsal. Participants will show up in full witch attire — with broom, of course — for a witch’s tea on Oct. 24.
The dance is not difficult to learn and will be good exercise for those taking part in practices, said Welch. The two months will also allow participants to gather the costumes and props for their “witch” character.
“Dance is not only a way to have fun, but is a great way to keep fit,” Welch added. “It is a great way to release energy. I believe that there is good that dance does, an impact that it has on the mind that reflects in the body and the spirit of everyone who experiences it. Come and be prepared to be inspired.”
Pre-registration is requested. To sign up to participate in the witch’s dance, stop in The Enchanted Hollow on East Avenue.
