The Wellsboro boys basketball team opened district play with a dominating win over Hughesville. The boys jumped ahead by 13 points in the first quarter and never looked back, cruising to a 58 -27 victory over the Spartans.

Brandyn Tuttle, Andrew Brelo and Joseph Grab each scored 11 points in the victory. Tanner Button broke double digits with 10 points of his own.

In the semi-final round of district play the boys traveled to Montgomery where they met the Red Tornadoes from Mount Carmel.

Again, the Hornets took an early lead and never looked back.

Wellsboro dropped 16 points in the first two quarter to take a 32-12 lead into halftime.

Wellsboro had the game in hand. Despite a much closer game score-wise in the second half, the Red Tornadoes never really mounted a serious comeback.

An additional 41 points in the second half secured the 73-48 victory for the Hornets to advance to the championship match.

Tuttle led all scorers with 23 points and added 11 rebounds.

Grab was the second leading scorer with 19 points. Grab was 8-9 from the foul line in the second half.

Brelo finished the night with 12 points and 5 rebounds.

Holden Kennedy was the fourth Hornet to break double-digits finishing the night with 11 points.
