Mansfield Destroyers garnered two of their own for Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week in the NYCBL opening weekend June 6th – 9th.
Tim Carroll — from Ballston Lake, N.Y. and Siena College earned the Player of the week honors as he collected six hits, scored six runs, one double, two stolen bases and two RBI’s with a batting average of .545.
Tim played in the home opener against the Dodgers and went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. In the first game of doubleheader with the Cortland Crush, Tim went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. At Sunday’s game against the Genesee Rapids, he again had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.
David Higginbotham — from Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Samford University, secured Pitcher of the Week honors. He earned two saves in two appearances without allowing a run.
In the home opener against the Hornell Dodgers, David pitched one inning to earn the first Destroyer save in franchise history.
In Saturday’s second game win over the Cortland Crush, David came in with the bases loaded and got the final out as the batter flew out to right field to secure the win for the Destroyers and his second save on the season.
“These two guys are off to a great start! Tim hit .545, even his outs were line shots.
David is a gamer, he loves pressure situations and wants the ball every day. It will be a fun summer watching these two every day,” commented Coach Hill.
