Tuesday night the Lady Hornets volleyball team traveled to North Penn-Liberty for a match against the defending district champions. Both teams entered the evening undefeated. Home fans filled the gymnasium with orange “Spike Out hunger” shirts while a dedicated Wellsboro crowd made the drive to cheer on their team. As the teams took the court for the first game the fans were already cheering at an ear-splitting decibel, they would only get louder as the two teams fought for control through three close games.

North Penn-Liberty would finish the night on top to remain undefeated with scores in the three games, 25-22, 30-28, 25-20.

The teams jockeyed for the lead, neither one ever getting too far ahead.

The Lady Mounties fought back from down five points in the first game to take control and hang on for the win.

A dramatic second game saw each team fight for the lead in extra points. As the intensity behind each point mounted the crowd was on their feet cheering each pass and point. The Lady Mounties again found a way to put together a string of points to secure the second victory of the night.

After that North Penn-Liberty was able to pull ahead in a third game for a 25-20 win. The win brings the Lady Mounties record to 7-0. Following the victory the Lady Mounties will face Towanda Thursday at home.

Wellsboro now sits at 8-1 with a home game Thursday against Troy.

Caitlyn Callahan led the Lady Hornets with 14 kills. With Heidi Zuchowski adding six kills and Bailey Monks find three kills of her own.

Megan Starkweather led Wellsboro with 18 assists.

Ryann Adams earned 11 points and 14 digs on the night. Defensively the Lady Hornets Megan Starkweather had four blocks while Breigh Kemp added two.
