The North Penn-Liberty Lady Mounties traveled to Wellsboro, Thursday night for a follow-up to the highly-competetive first match. The first meeting between the two powerhouses was Wellsboro’s first and only loss of the season. Coming into the match the Lady Hornets looked to unseat the still undefeated Lady Mounties.

In the first set Wellsboro fought tooth and nail against the defending NTL champions to hand North Penn-Liberty their first set loss of the season 25-20. To this point North Penn-Liberty had dominated their competition winning every game in three sets.

The Lady Hornets left it all on the court in the first set, North Penn-Liberty responded with a devastating 25-11 win in the second set.

The final two sets were closer than the second but the Lady Mounties delivered the same results, two more set wins 25-18, 25-17.

Leading the scoring for the Lady Mounties was Maddison Minyo with seven aces, 12 kills, one block and six digs.

Ellianna Fry controlled the net with seven blocks, five kills and two digs. JoAnne MacNamara added five aces, a team high 23 assists and a dig.

Charisma Grega earned 11 kills with 18 receptions and 17 digs in the win. Brooke Harvey just edged past Grega in kills with 12, with 12 receptions and 14 digs.

Mariah Kshir had two aces, two blocks, 17 assists and seven digs for North Penn-Liberty. Savannah Doney led the team with 26 receptions as well as 11 digs.

Leading the scoring for Wellsboro was Caitlyn Callahan with 22 kills and six aces.

Heidi Zuchowskil added six kills with two aces. Megan Starkweather led the Lady Hornets with 31 assists, seven blocks, and also had four aces.

Behind Starkweather in assists was Breigh Kemp with 25. Kemp would also add 15 digs.

Ryan Adams led the defense with 32 digs as well as four aces.

Shiloh Duff would add six blocks and four aces for Wellsboro. Bailey Monks would round out the defense with three blocks.

The win for North Penn-Liberty keeps them atop the Class AA standings. Wellsboro remains in second place despite the loss.

This Saturday in Williamson the teams will compete in the District IV Volleyball tournament.
