Wyalusing mourns loss of Coach James Huffman

The Wyalusing Lady Rams played their District match against Wellsboro With heavy hearts Tuesday after Coach Huffman’s death Monday afternoon.

The Lady Hornets earned a rematch with the North Penn-Mansfield Lady Mounties on Thursday after a three set victory over Wyalusing.

Wyalusing came to the District match Tuesday night in Williamson with heavy hearts and minds. The team was hit with tragedy Monday afternoon when Coach James Huffman died in an accident as the tractor he was riding went over an embankment and overturned.

Huffman coached the Lady Rams with wife Gayle and was integral in the Wyalusing community where he taught sixth grade until he retired in 2017.

Huffman was known for his big heart and will be missed by many.

Only a day after his passing, the Lady Rams played an emotional district game cheered on by the support of a passionate crowd.

Wellsboro took the victory with scores of 25-18, 25-17, 25-9. Following the game there was a moment of silence for Coach Huffman.

Players and fans formed a circle on the court and comforted one another. The Williamson volleyball team presented flowers and shared their condolences with the Wyalusing players and coaches.

The victory for Wellsboro sets up a rematch with North Penn-Liberty Thursday night for the Distrcit IV championship. This is the third meeting between the two teams.
