State police at Montoursville are investigating the cause of death of a dump-truck driver whose vehicle went off Route 287, near the Tioga County line Monday afternoon, Sept. 2.

According to police, the crash, about 2:30 p.m. in Cogan House Township, killed David E. Corl, 64, of Milesburg.

Corl was traveling north in a 1979 Freightliner City Dump Trailer when the truck drifted off the west side of the roadway.

The truck traveled up an embankment striking multiple small pine trees and a utility pole before coming down off the embankment and back on the roadway, blocking both lanes of travel.

Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. pronounced Corl dead at the scene.

The cause of death is pending investigation by the Lycoming County Coroner’s office to determine whether or not Corl suffered a medical episode prior to the crash.

State police were assisted on the scene by Morris Volunteer Fire Department and Jersey Shore EMS.

The road remained closed for several hours while the wreckage was cleared.
