The Wellsboro school has announced that they will be hosting their first ever co-ed five-on-five indoor youth soccer tournament the Hornet Cup at the Hive on Saturday, Feb. 22 that is open to Wellsboro students from grades six through eight from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

The tournament plans to consist of eight separate teams and a total of 48 players from the Wellsboro school district. It will include a guaranteed three 30 minute games for the players, and also will include a team shirt as well.

Since there are only 48 spots available, participants will be accepted until tournament is full, and any other students who are interested in playing will be put on a waiting list in the event a player backs out. All rosters will be announced on the morning of the tournament.

The tournament has been set up in order to help cover the cost of the Wellsboro Highschool boys soccer teams 20 players expected to attend the Messiah College team camp this upcoming July. All proceeds will go directly to the cause of sending the Hornets soccer team to their camp.

For the first year the tournament will only be open to students enrolled in the Wellsboro School District but according to Todd Fitch they will look at expanding it to a larger audience in the future if the tournament is successful.
