Wellsboro Hornets boys soccer hosted the Williamson Warriors soccer team on Monday night and came up with a big 7-1 victory to move to 5-2 on the season. The Wellsboro team won their fourth straight game on Monday and are steadily climbing up the standings in the NTL this season.
The Hornets boys team came out firing on Monday night, scoring two quick goals early, one by Owen Richardson and a header by Zach Rowland to give the Hornets an early 2-0 lead.
The Hornets continued to roll in the first half with Kaedan Mann coming up with another goal 25 minutes into the first half of play to push the Hornets up 3-0.
Before the half ended, the Hornets scored two more goals, another by Zach Rowland and another by Alvaro Garza-Seijo to push the lead to 5-0 at halftime with the Hornets sitting on a very comfortable lead. Will Poirier came up with two assists in the first half on both of Rowland’s goals and the tandem helped to secure the lead going into the half.
In the second half of play, the Warriors were finally able to put something on the board with Gabe Prince scoring early to bring the score to 5-1 with a lot of time left to play.
The Hornets scoring flurry wasn’t over yet though, as they scored two more goals, both by Poirier to close out the scoring 7-1. Will Poirier had an outstanding game, assisting on two goals and scoring two accounting for over half of the points scored by the Hornets.
The Hornets now sit at 5-2 and third place in the NTL. They sit one game behind the second place Troy Trojans, and two games back from the Athens Wildcats. The Hornets take on both teams one more time this season and will need to play well in order to have a shot at the NTL title.
