Three Galeton volleyball players were honored last Thursday night as they reached milestones across multiple games. Alli Macensky and Alexis Johnson with 100 blocks each and Makenna Shuemaker with 500 digs.
Sophomore hitter Alli Macensky reached her 100th block in a home game against Otto-Eldred on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
“This was hard to get to because first of all I didn’t think I would play as a freshman. Starting now and getting it in my second year as a sophomore is really big for me,” Macensky said. “I was very excited because I didn’t think I would ever get it and if I did, I thought it would take four years to reach it.”
Alexis Johnson scored her 100th block in a home game against Northern Potter on Thursday, Sept. 24.
“This was a goal I set early on in my varsity career to be diligent, focused, and strong at the net,” Johnson said. “I knew my team was counting on me to be the best I can be and I wouldn’t have met this goal without them. I love how loud everyone cheers when one of us gets a block, and I felt excited and accomplished when I got it.”
Setter Makenna Shuemaker reached 500 digs in Galeton against Northern Potter.
“This was not easy to get to since I’m not a libero and I don’t play back row where most of them happen,” Shuemaker said. “I’ve been a setter since my freshman year so I’ve only played back row a limited number of times, but I’m glad that I was able to work my way to 500. I was super excited and proud of myself since it’s out of the position you’d think would get it.”
After the players were recognized, they faced St. Marys and dominated the game, 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-9), where Macensky, Johnson and Shuemaker all added to their big blocking and dig numbers.
Macensky scored five kills, a block, an assist, a dig and six aces, while Johnson had six kills, three blocks, three digs and three aces to go with an assist.
Shuemaker added a kill, five assists, two aces and nine digs. Olivia Rohrbaugh had three kills, two aces and eight digs with Tressa Succowich contributing a kill, two assists and 10 digs while Lauren Sauley scored six kills and assists, seven digs and two aces and Mikayla Schott added 11 digs.
For St. Marys, Janelle Krug had 30 digs with Olivia Dunmire getting 13 digs and Meghan McGonnell 18 digs and three kills. Lindsey Reiter had nine digs, three kills, and three set assists.
