Both North Penn-Liberty’s Aubrey Griess and Cowanesque Valley’s Megan Wattles both got the opportunity to compete in this year’s District Four Class AA singles tennis Championships this week in Williamsport on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Though neither were able to come away with a victory, both players enjoyed sustained success throughout the 2020 season and accomplished a lot just to get to participate in such a tournament.
Griess, the top player for the NP-Liberty team this season, was knocked out in the preliminary round when she took on Danville’s Paige Holcombe.
Griess had a strong season for the Liberty girls tennis team in 2020, and recorded three wins in singles play as well as two wins in doubles during this past season helping her team to a solid 4-5 record on the season.
Wattles was able to make it into the first round bracket, but fell to a tough Montoursville tennis player in Lydia Barbour in straight sets. Barbour made it all the way to the semifinals during the tournament.
Despite the loss, Wattles put together one of the top NTL tennis seasons, coming up with a 5-2 record in singles play as well as a 1-0 record in doubles play.
