Thomas Putnam, artistic director for Hamilton-Gibson Productions based in Wellsboro, has announced audition and registration dates and locations for the “Aladdin Junior” Winter Theater Arts Camp in Elkland. The Deerfield Charitable Trust is the camp sponsor.

“Aladdin Junior,” the stage adaptation of the Disney film, is filled with magic, mayhem, flying carpet rides and songs like “A Whole New World,” “Friend Like Me” and others from the Academy Award-winning score. Roles to be cast are Aladdin, Jasmine, the Genie and all of the other characters.

“’Aladdin’ was one of our most popular winter theatre arts camps,” said Putnam. “The movie and songs are very familiar to many students. There are a variety of characters and a wonderfully large chorus so everyone can be involved. This is a great opportunity for children and youth who love to be on stage and have experience as well as for those who want to perform but are too shy to take that first step.”

The Elkland camp is open to any student currently in the third through ninth grades who live in Northern Tioga School District communities.

Registration and auditions for the camp will be right after school at R. B. Walter Elementary School at 65 Junction Cross Road in Tioga on Monday, Jan. 14, 2019 and at Clark Wood Elementary School at 110 Addison Hill Road in Elkland on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2019. Students from all over the Northern Tioga School District can register and audition at either site.

The camp will be in the Elkland Auditorium at 110 Addison Hill Road on the following dates: Thursday and Friday, Jan. 17 and 18; Wednesday through Saturday, Jan. 23-26 and Monday through Thursday, Jan. 28-31 right after school from 3:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

On weekdays, this 10-day after school camp will begin at 3:45 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 9 a.m. to noon. Camp times will vary on performance days.

The campers will give performances of “Aladdin Junior” during school hours for students on Friday, Feb. 1 and Pay-What-You-Can performances for the public at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1 and 2. All of the performance will be in the Elkland Auditorium.

On the registration and audition days, parents will be asked to sign permission slips to allow their children to participate in the camp and performances. All youth who register will be given the “Aladdin Junior” script and CD to take home to memorize their lines and songs by Thursday, Jan. 17, the first day of camp.

Due to the generosity of the Deerfield Charitable Trust, youth from the Northern Tioga School District will be able to attend camp for free. Each student will receive a camp T-shirt, the script, printed materials and instruction in theatre arts.
