October will mark the 56th year of operation of The Galeton Development Corporation.

Formed in 1964 by local businessmen, as a 501C(3) Non-Profit Organization, the GDC is active in working for the good of the community.

Its mission is essential to the viability of the Borough of Galeton to bring new people, new ideas and income to the borough. It devotes its efforts to the realization of these goals by promoting, facilitating, and assisting to establish and grow businesses located in the borough. GDC works to capture the spending power of persons traveling through the Galeton area and PA Route 6 corridor. The organization is also focused on maintaining and enhancing the quality of life, and the preservation of Potter County’s high-quality natural environment.

Business meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month. Membership is open to business, municipal and school district representatives. Individuals may become members and participate in meetings and projects.

Regular attendees at meetings are representatives from Galeton Area School District, DCNR Parks and Recreation, PA Route 6 Alliance, Gale Foundation, Galeton Public Library, PA Lumber Museum, Borough of Galeton, Potter County Education Council, Rotary, UPMC, Galeton Chamber of Commerce, Visit Potter Tioga and county officials. Guest speakers are frequently invited, to inform the membership of current projects and initiatives.

2020 meetings have been interrupted due to COVID-19 health and safety mandates for public gatherings. Despite this, GDC has remained active by call in meetings during the restrictions and worked together in small groups to handle financial matters, and critical communications. The next monthly meeting is scheduled for 8 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21. Confirmation of the meeting location will be advertised.
