Travis Gleason soars in for an offensive rebound during the Coudersport Falcons loss to Ridgeway on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

The Coudersport Falcons basketball team (19-4) saw their district playoff run come to an abrupt end in the quarterfinals of the district playoffs as they fell short in a defensive battle to Ridgway (15-7) by a score of 39-29.

The Falcons were unable to get anything going on the offensive end of the floor, and scored their lowest point output of the season as they were only able to muster up a 29-point performance.

Things started off rough for the Coudersport team, as they were only able to score one point in the entirety of the first quarter. Luckily for the Falcons, the offensive struggles were mirrored by the Ridgway team who also struggled in the opening frame, and scored just six points and only able to gain a five-point advantage as they headed into the second quarter of play.

After the slow start, Coudersport exploded in the second and score 18 points behind a strong effort shooting the ball as the Falcons knocked down four three-pointers in the frame with both Hayden Keck and Kolby Vanwhy both knocking down two shots from deep to give the Falcons a 19-13 lead headed into halftime after outscoring Ridgway 18-7 in the second quarter.

After a strong second quarter, the Falcons were never able to match the scoring output for the remainder of the game, and only mustered seven points in the second half.

The fourth quarter saw the Ridgway team finally able to capitalize on the slow scoring night for a normally potent Coudersport offense, and outscored the Falcons 21-2 in the final frame to give Ridgway a 39-29 victory.

Keck led the way for the Falcons scoring 11 points, and was the only Coudersport player to reach double digit scoring in the effort.

Travis Gleason contributed seven points as well with Dillion Keglovits adding five points and Kolby Vanwhy adding six points to round out the scoring for the Falcons in a tough loss that saw Coudersport unable to top the 30-point mark for the first time this season.

The Falcons season isn’t over yet, and despite a tough loss the Coudersport team will face off with the Keystone basketball team (18-3) who also suffered a deflating upset in the quarterfinals.

With both teams coming off tough losses, Coudersport will need to bounce back and get their offense on track in order to move on to the state playoffs.

Coudersport will get a shot to make the state playoffs as they face off with the top-seeded Keystone team who was also upset in the quarterfinals this past week in the consolation round.
