Oswayo Valley Varsity Softball fought back after falling down by nine runs in the second inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 12-10 defeat to Smethport on Friday. Oswayo Valley Varsity Softball put up 10 runs in the failed comeback. Makenzie Mesler, Laya Phillips, Breaze Taylor, Macy West, West, and Kelsey Turk each picked up RBIs.

Oswayo Valley Varsity Softball was right in it until Smethport walked in the fifth inning.

In the first inning, Smethport got their offense started when Willow Lapp singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

Smethport scored seven runs in the second inning. Danielle Nelson, Sam Tanner, Rylee Crowley, Lapp, and Ashley Day each drove in runs during the inning.

Coryn McClain earned the win for Smethport. She surrendered one run on five hits over two and a third innings, striking out two.

West took the loss for Oswayo Valley Varsity Softball. She lasted six innings, allowing 10 hits and 12 runs while striking out five.

Tanner started the game for Smethport. She allowed 11 hits and nine runs over four and a third innings, striking out three

Oswayo Valley Varsity Softball totaled 16 hits in the game. Skylar Hohenwarter, Mackenzie George, West, Kaci Chappell, Caitlin Pease, and Taylor each had multiple hits for Oswayo Valley Varsity Softball. West, George, and Hohenwarter all had three hits to lead Oswayo Valley Varsity Softball. West led Oswayo Valley Varsity Softball with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.

Smethport tallied 10 hits on the day. Lapp and Celest Austin all managed multiple hits for Smethport. Lapp went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Smethport in hits. Smethport stole eight bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Baylea Arnold led the way with four. Smethport was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Austin made the most plays with ten.
