Former Mansfield University baseball pitcher Joseph DePerno ‘19 has signed a professional contract to play for the Santa Fe Fuego of the PECOS Professional Baseball League.
DePerno is the 55th player in Mountaineer baseball history to play the game professionally.
The Stroudsburg native made 38 appearances on the mound in his career which included five starts and totaled 85.1 innings. As a senior, DePerno threw a career-high 39 innings and notched one complete game and one save. DePerno also struck out a career-high 38 batters in 2019.
DePerno served as a starter and reliever during his career and periodically excelled as the teams closer where he registered four saves, including a team-high three as a sophomore.
The Santa Fe Fuego are an independent professional baseball team based in Sante Fe, N.M. The PECOS operates in cities in desert mountain regions throughout California, New Mexico, Southern Arizona, Kansas, West Texas and Southern Colorado.
