North Penn-Liberty Mounties
Despite the loss to Mount Calvary Christian over the weekend, the North Penn-Liberty boys basketball team put together a season for the ages, reaching the 20-win mark for the first time in decades.
Liberty boasted a team that could beat you in a multitude of ways, and with three-point shooters all over the floor as well as a six foot seven shot-blocking machine in the middle of the floor, Liberty showed how dangerous of a team they could be.
The Mounties claimed their first NTL District 2 title since the 90s and also made their way to the State playoffs for the first time since 2001-2002 and is only the third Liberty team to ever reach the tournament in school history.
On top of all of those firsts for Liberty, Coach Brian Litzelman also claimed his 100th win as a Mounties coach for his alma-mater to sweeten the already amazing season the Liberty boys put together.
The emergence of the North Penn-Liberty basketball program has been a long process, but over the years this group of players has continued to improve not only during the season but in the offseason as well.
Liberty used their tenacious mindset to not only win games, but dominate the NTL as they not only finished with the best record out of both divisions, but also made the second longest run in the NTL with their State playoff appearence.
With all of these accomplishments over the course of the season, the North Penn-Liberty boys basketball team more than deserves the spot as this week’s Gazette Athletes of the Week.
