WELLSBORO — HAVEN of Tioga County held its third annual on Saturday, May 21 at the Deane Center, featuring a totally rad 1980s/1990s theme.
The gala was not held in 2020 or 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Valley girls, goths, prom queens and slackers assembled to spread awareness and raise funds for HAVEN’s mission of helping all individuals affected by abuse and domestic violence.
HAVEN provides legal, educational, therapeutic, housing and other assistance to those in need. All services are provided free and are confidential.
A skit modeled on the classic TV game show “The Dating Game” offered tips on how to spot healthy and unhealthy relationships, with board member Kacy Hagen choosing among a nice but needy Julia York, a controlling Nichole Book and a low-key and thoughtful Justin Grubb. The crowd encouraged Hagen to pick Grubb, who portrayed a nice guy from Westfield who loves to fish.
Kevin Thomas of KC101.5 hosted The Dating Game and DJ Jason Bump provided the music for the evening. Catering was provided by Family Traditions Catering.
A beverage pull, basket raffles, a live auction, a photo booth and various games of chance contributed to fundraising efforts. Approximately $9,000 was raised on Saturday in support of HAVEN’s efforts.
A bragging-rights-only Best Costume contest was held the evening’s end, with Josh Vlajic and Travis Davey portraying Wayne and Garth from the Wayne’s World movies taking the prize.
