The Austin Volunteer Fire Company announces that Patrol 44-24 is officially in service as of Feb. 5. The patrol, purchased from Kightlinger Motors and detailed by Cussins Designs, returned to the station after having lighting, radios and additional details installed at 911 Rapid Response. The final detail, a SKID unit will also be installed soon. AVFD is excited to have this unit in service to serve our community.

Family, friends and community members gathered Sunday to release balloons in memory of Wyatt Brimmer, 12, of Harrison Valley. Family member Trisha Brimmer organized the event at the Harrison Valley Ball Field, with Dollar General in Ulysses donating most of the balloons. Wyatt died Jan. 28 from a gunshot wound.

The first Family Sledding Day of the year brought kids and kids at heart to His Thousand Hills last Saturday. Two more Family Sledding Days are 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 20 and March 6 at His Thousand Hills, 458 Phippen Road, Wellsboro. There is no admission, but donations are appreciated. A fire pit and hot cocoa will be available after sledding.

This quilt will be raffled off to purchase a van for Taylor Makley, 19, the daughter of Janell and Timothy Pelton of Middlebury Center. Taylor is a student with special needs and the family van needs repairs. The Wellsboro Rotary is helping with the fundraiser.
