The American Legion Post 428 of Elkland, assisted by Cub Scouts from Pack 2044, retired flags that are no longer in serviceable condition on Flag Day, June 14, at the CV Rod & Gun Club grounds on Ellison Road in Elkland. Beth Costley, Pack Leader, said they are looking for new scouts. Boys or girls ages 5 through 11 are welcome to join. This summer, the scouts are camping, swimming, hiking and planning further fun activities. The Pack meets weekly. For more information, call Costley at 814-258-5003.
The Austin Fire Department responded to a tree across the road in Sylvania Township Friday afternoon, June 18. Crews found the roadway completely blocked and used chainsaws to remove the tree. The roadway was cleared and all units back in quarters within an hour.
The 2021 Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen Jocelyn Renninger, who represented Central Mountain, is flanked by her court, second runner-up Miss Saegertown Amber Costello and first runner-up and Miss Congeniality Miss Williamsport Alayna Dake.
