Williamson’s Ryan Hughes (second from left) set her sights on standing on the podium during the NTL championships, and the distance runner did just that - twice, claiming the 1600 and 3200 meter first place gold medal on Saturday, May 14, in Athens.


ughes crossed the finish line at Athens’ NTL track and field championships with not just one gold medal, but two. 

Seeded second with a time of 5:36.20 in the 1600 meters, Hughes rounded the track, crossing the finish line with a first place time of 5:18.30. 

Seeded fourth in the 3200 meters, Hughes entered the race with a time of 12:32.60 and finished with a first place time of 12:05.04.

“It feels pretty nice to be a double champion,” said Hughes, who has been competing in track and field since the seventh grade.
